About

Hello, I’m Sophie. I have been cold water swimming in the UK for just over four years now. I’m not a racer or endurance swimmer, but I love being in water outdoors, and hold a deep appreciation for all the positives outdoor swimming can provide.

I love reading about beautiful, hidden swimming spots across the UK. Often tucked away in remote countryside, forested valleys, coastal coves, or mountainous landscapes. These scenic locations are breathtaking—but for newcomers to cold water swimming, especially those venturing out alone, they can feel intimidating.

The purpose of my project SophieGoesSwimming, is to explore safe and supportive outdoor swimming venues, particularly for those trying outdoor swimming for the first time. I’ll give you my honest and full opinion, so that you can plan your visit better informed and with more confidence.

My ‘non-negotiables’ are that the swimming venue must, at the very least, have a convenient car park and bathroom facilities. I hope you agree!

So, please join me on this journey of discovery, to find safe, supportive and inclusive swimming communities, as relevant and enjoyable to first-time dippers as they are to more experienced plungers.
